If you ask the average Christian how their walk with God is going, you will likely hear a list of things they are not doing enough of and a list of things they are doing too much. With no lack for zeal, many Christians are worn out and burdened by “trying” to please God. We are confronted with enough burden and stress in this world without our relationship with God adding to it. In fact, Jesus said if you are weary and tired, then “Come to Me” and find rest and freedom. His invitation is a radical contrast to the world’s confrontation, because in Him, we are no longer in the struggle and bondage of trying to be right and get it right, we are in the rest and freedom of having been made right by His grace. Now we can get off the performance track that has no finish line, and run the new race of faith that begins with Christ’s finished work. Being made right with God means there is no pressure from Him for us to get right, just the constant reminder that we are. Your rest and freedom are not contingent on your circumstances or your emotions, but on Christ. The rest we find is not because the world changes but because we are changed from within. His love has a way of doing that!
Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
