Does God still love me in the middle of my struggle?

June 10, 2026
Love

Struggles, suffering, temptation, trials, these things can make God’s love feel distant. When life hurts, or we find ourselves battling weakness, it’s easy to wonder if God has stepped back, if He’s disappointed in us, or if we’ve somehow fallen outside of His care.

But the gospel tells us something completely different.

God’s love for you is not measured by your circumstances. It is proven by the cross.

Scripture says, “We love because He first loved us.” That means His love is the source, not the reward. It is the foundation under your feet when life feels unstable. God’s love is not a temporary mood. It is not a response to your best performance or your most faithful week.

God did not wait for you to become strong, steady, or struggle-free before He loved you. He loved you first. He sent Jesus in the middle of our brokenness, not after we had cleaned ourselves up. That means your struggle is not stronger than His love, and your weakness is not proof of His absence, but a reminder of your need for His presence, which will never leave you or forsake you.

Sometimes pain speaks loudly. Temptation tells you that you’re failing. Suffering whispers that you’ve been forgotten. But none of those voices get the final word. Jesus does because He is the truth.

And He says you are loved.

In Christ, you share in the very relationship Jesus has with the Father. You are accepted, forgiven, secure, and brought near. God is not waiting for a future or better version of you before He draws close. His Spirit lives in you right now—even in the middle of your struggle.

Jesus Himself experienced suffering on this earth. He understands weakness, sorrow, pressure, and pain in a broken world. Yet the Father’s love for Him never changed. And because you are in Christ, the Father’s love for you never changes either.

So if you’re struggling today, you do not have to question whether God still loves you. The cross has already answered that forever.

A Prayer for This Week

Father, thank You that Your love is not distant or dependent on my strength. Thank You for loving me first and proving that love through Jesus. When I struggle, remind me that I am still Yours, still accepted, and still secure in Christ. Thank You that my struggle does not push You away. Teach me to hear Your truth above fear, shame, and discouragement. Let my heart rest in the love You have already proven and secured forever. Amen.

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38–39
